Memory Walk 2014

We are gearing up to walk for The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba this year. Last year we had 78 walkers and raised $6300.00! This year we are hoping to raise $8000.00 and 100 team members. Feel free to join our team...anyone can join us! Or if you are unable to walk with us you can visit our page to make a donation. The Winnipeg walk is held at The Scotia Stage at The Forks, registration and food from 5 pm to 6 pm on Thursday, June 12, 2014. We'd love to see you there!

What a fantastic day for a walk around The Forks we had last year! Sylvia our Community Service Representative and Jeannette one of our wonderful CAREGivers still smiling after the walk.

Did you know that according to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba,
"It is projected that over the next 30 years the number of people living with dementia will almost double, further increasing the demand for supportive programs and services. It is essential that events like our annual Memory Walk are successful to allow us to meet the growing demands for our programs and services for Manitobans."

May CAREGiver of the Month

Narciso is our May CAREGiver of the month. Narciso comes to every shift with an open heart and warm smile. No matter what the challenge he may face Ciso tackles it with care and the confidence in knowing he can make a difference each day. We are so proud to have a CAREGiver like Narciso because he embodies Home Instead motto every day, to him it is personal and he takes the time to know all about his clients to ensure he meeting both their physical and emotional needs.

We asked him why did he decide to become a Caregiver?

"First of all, care giving is a professional job. My passion in caring for the elderly has brought me into this career. I wanted to do something in my career that is challenging, interesting, and to make a difference in people's lives on a daily basis.

What sparked my interest in becoming a caregiver was that I had been a caregiver to my grandparents. I saw the satisfaction they felt everyday and that inspired my own interest in the field of care giving."

We asked Narciso what was your most memorable or happiest moment(s) with your clients?

"The word SATISFACTION stands out. Seeing my clients satisfied with the services I provide  makes me real happy. For instance, one of my clients had asked me to drive him to visit his wife in another nursing facility and to buy his favorite cookie.  I noticed that he was hesitant to tell me that he had no cash available at that time. So, I told him that I would lend him some money and he could pay me back at a later date. After that, he was so full of mirth and was very grateful."

What advice do you have for any new Caregivers?

"Always follow the acronym "I CARE". This will lead you to success in making your clients satisfied."

The acronym stands for:

 I - integrity

C - compassionate

A - advocate

R - respect

E - empathy

We asked Narciso what he enjoys doing on his days off.

"I spend most of my time at home doing some household chores. I also love cooking, watching movies, and outdoor walking for exercise.

I would like to thank Home Instead Senior Care for this unexpected recognition of my efforts. This gives me a sense of self-confidence. I will redouble my efforts in serving our clients to make them satisfied to the best of my abilities."

Thanks very much, Narciso! Thank you for being a valued member of the Home Instead Senior Care Team!
